A KILSYTH couple have suffered a double tragedy.
Jim and Margery Dick, whose daughter Lorraine died at the end of 2004 in tragic circumstances, were dealt another blow this week with the death of their other daughter, Yvonne Taylor, in a hospital i
n Gran Canaria.
She had been taken there a fortnight ago following a fall in Lanzarote, where she had been on holiday with her family. She took ill following an operation to repair a broken femur. Yvonne died in the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday).
Jim, pastor of the Kilsyth Church of God, and Margery, had flown out to the island last week to be at her bedside.
Yvonne lived in the Bristol area with her husband Andy and young son Joseph.
The operation to repair the broken leg apparently went well, but Yvonne, who it is understood had not been in the best of health, developed pneumonia and was put on a life support system.
Andy took Joseph back to the UK to stay with relatives and then returned to Gran Canaria.
The Church of God was open from 7-8am each day to allow the folks of the church, as well as friends and well-wishers, to go in and pray for Yvonne and her parents and family, while she fought for life.
Support
A church representative said: "On behalf of Jim and Margery, we'd like to thank everyone for their prayers and support at this difficult time."
Jim and Margery's younger daughter, Lorraine, died of a drugs overdose at the age of 35 in 2004, after a brave battle against heroin addiction. She had turned to drugs after a horrific assault while she was doing voluntary work in Bangladesh.
Jim and Margery have a son, Andrew, in Australia.
The Chronicle joins the folk of Kilsyth and district in support for the Dicks in this time of great sadness.
The church will remain open for prayer from 7-8 each morning.
